Chapter 2- Adventure

"Life is too short to not take risks and to live with a daring heart and passionate spirit.... There are limits to what adults can and should do when adding adventures to a child's life." So, the question is really HOW? Clark mentions several options to incorporate a sense of adventure without ever leaving the campus.
 - outside teaching (science lab)
-  food mentioned in a social studies lesson or reading story
-  dress up (see Mandy for ideas ;))
-  scavenger hunts (measure around the room, location of vowels on signs in building...)
-  dramatic read aloud (background music, stand on the tables, make crazy noises)
-  involved learning/ "spark" (Project based learning, readers theater)

"Experiencing new adventure reveals strength within ourselves that we might never have realized was there."

For our feedback on this chapter, please think WAY outside of the box. I know it might feel crazy or even out of reach but set a Long Term Goal of an adventure you'd like to
a) personally take and
b) an adventure you want to pursue for your students.

 Bucket List type things here....

  1. I would like to..
    a) rent an RV with my family and travel out West. I would love to see Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and other national parks.
    b) I feel guilty for not maintaining better contact with those kids I looped with two years ago. I think I would love to take them on a state tour of the colleges around our area and then maybe culminate the trip with a trip to the coast. :)

  2. I would like to go with my family to Scotland. I have traveled quite a bit. However, the one place I would like to go, but haven't is Scotland. I think my boys would like it as well.
I would like to go to future graduations and see all my students walk across the foot ball field to receive their diplomas. Experiencing that goal reaching adventure with them would be amazing.

  3. I would like to live in a tiny house. I LOVE watching Tiny House Hunters on HGTV. With all of our "stuff" there is no possible way we could do it, but those houses are just so adorable! Maybe in retirement :)
I would like to have my classes each year over to my house to have a sleepover. Obviously girls separated from boys. I want them to see what true family living is like, and I'd get to be fun and love on them outside of the classroom!

  5. I would love for Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Morrow(the FAB3) and I to be able to take a trip with the first group of kids we ever taught. I think it would be a great learning experience.
I would also like to get married and take a honeymoon road trip stopping at every destination that included Guys Drive in and Dives!

  6. I have always wanted to be able to go to each state and see its claim to fame. I would love to be able to take a group to Hawaii. I know many of our kids have never seen the beach. It would be awesome for them to not only see the beach, but also see volcanos, islands, etc! We could do studies on sea life, volcanos, climate, rainbows, tropical farming, native culture, WWII, etc. It would be the field trip of a life time!

  8. I would love for Clay and I to eventually visit all the MLB Baseball Stadiums in the United States. Typically during the summer we take a road trip and along the way we we find a new stadium. On the top of our list to visit next would be Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park!
I would love to be able to go back and spend the day with each of my five classes that I had a Clanton Elementary! Teaching 2nd grade at a K-2 school I never got to really see my students after they left 2nd grade. I think it would be really neat to see them and catch up with what they are doing now!

  9. My most current item on my bucket list is to get my mother-in-law an apartment and out of my house (did I really just type that?). Haha! This is day 71 of her staying with us so forgive me for my bluntness.
Anyway... Now for the real stuff...
*I want Michael and me to go on a trip without the kids sometime soon.

*I want our family to go to California. I went when I was in middle school, but I would love to go back as an adult.

*I would also like to attend the graduations of all of my former students. I have that opportunity this year as my first group from Tuscaloosa graduates at Central High this May.

  11. I would love to take a trip to Europe, Greece in particular.
I would have to say that I would love to take a trip with my class that I looped with my 2nd and 3rd year of teaching. They were so much fun and a group that I truly will never forget. A college tour or a trip to Disney.. either would be fine with me!

  12. 1. Personally, I would love to travel more. Ireland is definitely my "bucket list" destination...I guess it's a "return to the land of my people" kind of thing.
    2. I would love to have a Mrs. Dutton's Reunion...Invite every kid I've ever taught (and their spouses, kids) to come back to a big bash where I can catch up with all of them, love them up one more time, and see what great people (even with mistakes) they've become.
